The late Shamar Rinpoche knew what he was doing when he chose Thaye Dorje as Karmapa Yangsi

“Thaye Dorje is the spiritual Karmapa,” Peter says, “Ogyen Trinley Dorje the sectarian Karmapa.”

“We in Europe have the late Shamarpa to thank for this insight.”

“Rinpoche clearly knew what he was doing in his traditional role as Red Hat Karmapa to the late Rangjung Rikpe Dorje’s Black Hat Karmapa,”

Peter continues.

“When he exercised the historical prerogative of his predecessors as Sharmapa to recognize Thaye Dorje as Karmapa Yangsi and not repatriate the late Black Hat Karmapa to China as the Karma Kagyu Sect did to Ogyen Trinley Dorje.”

Peter pauses.

“In retrospect, with the benefit of hindsight, we can now see that the late Shamarpa obviously recognized what the Karma Kagyu sect was up to with the Chinese in 1991 when it chose to repatriate the late Black Hat Karmapa to China.”

Peter adds.

“Thanks in no small part to the benefit of the past experience with sectarianism in Tibet of his predecessors.”

“And did what he did to support the legacy of the late Black Hat Karmapa’s spiritual legacy in the West.”

Peter concludes.

“Just as the late Rangjung Rikpe Dorje had intended his successor as Black Hat Karmapa to continue after in his wisdom chose to pass into Parinivana here in the West as a visitor rather than in India as an exile.”

Contrary to mainstream Kagyu angst…. the Sakya support Thaye. Support him well. He was recently seen teaching at a Sakya monestary in Ladach. And they as in Ngorpa, did perform the death rites for Sharmapa.
