Picture of Ogyen Trinley Dorje who recently visited Germany to raise money for his Karma Kagyu sect back in India
“I hope he got what he came here for.”
So says Werner.

The Karmapa came to Germany to benefit sentient beings. This Karmapa has touched more lives than perhaps all the Karmapas combined. That idea may be difficult to chew, but he is benefitting brings, including animals across the globe. We have entered a great opportunity to raise the level of spiritual or dharma practice internationally, and I continue to feel that deep connection to this Karmapa as I practice.
This business of making appearances at premium priced ticketed events is unprecedented for a Karmapa.
It is appropriate for us to take acceptation to this practice.
Do you want to be associated with such a thing?
Werner doesn’t, and he isn’t alone in this regard.
Ogyen Trinley Dorje raised money under the pretext of teaching us earlier this year at NYC.
Now he has done it again in Bonn.
He did it this time in Bonn.
It must stop here.
From what I’ve investigated, the Karmapa asked the European foundation to support the nuns in other countries.
I have no issues with that.
You think he’s going to places to raise money “in the guise of teaching.”
I think he’s teaching. Beyond what I’ve read from the European foundation, he appears to be doing a fine job. If you have other evidence and not just claims, then my mind can be changed. So far, I haven’t seen that evidence.
No, no, no, no.
It’s right there under your nose.
He appeared at a premium ticketed event under the guise of teaching the dharma.
It makes no difference why he did this.
He did this, twice now.
We live in the appearance of things and given he is the head of Karma Kagyu sect, a corrupt enterprise, we cannot give His Holiness as its leader the benefit of the doubt when it comes to such matters.
I understand, Bill. The events cost money just as the events hosted by most dharma teachers in the U.S. and elsewhere.
Are you concerned about the ticketed event or the “premium” part? I don’t care for the “premium” part. It’s silly.
However, I know the Karmapa’s visits can be expensive. How are these events paid for? I think I calculated the European event (4 days) as less than 300 USD. That’s high for the working and middle class. I don’t think I’ve paid more than 100 USD for weekly or weekend teachings (minus travel).
What is the solution that allows the Karmapa to teach, not create debt, and benefit the poor?
This isn’t the head of a religious sect making money.
It is without precedent for us as Karma Kagyu in the West.
Ogyen Trinley Dorje has crossed a line which we cannot allowed to be crossed with his appearance Bonn at a premium ticketed event.
At least as far as Werner is concerned.
This is not something he can associate himself with.
Happy to say I’m headed to Rangjung Yeshe Gomde for a three day with HE Khandro Rinpoche on the twelve independent links, hope I can download into my thick skull!
