Is the Karmapa’s silence his response to the Paris attacks?

Picture of Ogyen Trinley Dorje the old man instagramed to illustrate this episode of Pulp Buddhism in which the Naropa Prairie Dog Players discuss the possibility that the Karmapa’s silence is actually his response to the Paris attacks…

Virginia begins.

“Ogyen Trinley Dorje is the 17th Gyalwa Rinpoche, my root guru.”

Virginia continues.

“Let this be a teachable moment for us in the West.”

Caroline replies.

“Are you suggesting that His Holiness is teaching us a lesson.”

Jonathan replies.

“It is worth noting that Tibet sat out both WWI and WWII.”

Sally replies.

“I just don’t know what lesson the Karmapa could be teaching us.”

Virginia replies.

“Noble silence.”

Caroline replies.

“World weariness?”

Sally replies.

“You’ve lost me.”

Caroline replies.

“Think of it as a Buddhist virtue.”

Virginia replies.

“His Holiness is modeling for us an affect of resignation in the face of the shortcomings of samsara.”

Virginia continues.

“This is Ogyen Trinley Dorje’s statement in response to the Paris attacks.”

Sally replies.

Virginia replies.

“Turn the mind to the dharma.”

Karl replies.

“Typical lama talk.”

Sally replies.

“I don’t know what to think.”

End scene. Fini.

As far as I know Gyalwa Rinpoche was the title of the Dalai Lama before he became his title of his imperialistic friends in Mongolia. (When I tried to verify this I fould that: “The Third Dalai Lama publicly proclaimed that he was a reincarnation of the priest Phagpa and that Altan was a reincarnation of Kublai Khan” (The Story of Tibet: Conversations with the Dalai Lama by Thomas Laird pg 152). Politics of reincarnation! But to come back to the issue, the 14th Dalai Lama calles the Karmapa Karmapa Rinpoche, nowhere else to be found. Please call the great Karmapa Gyalwa Karmapa and don’t think that the statements of the Dalai Lama about reincarnations are always true, otherwise he would be the reincarnation of the Sakya’s regent Phagpa.
