Welcome to Guru Yoga in the Karma Kagyu with OTD as Karmapa

Picture of Darth Vader the old man instagramed to illustrate this episode of Pulp Buddhism in which the Naropa Prairie Dog Players discuss what role the Karma Kagyu sect, specifically the Tsurphu Labrang, in Ogyen Trinley Dorje’s non-response to the Paris attacks, which became a discussion of guru yoga in the Karma Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism in the 21st century…

Sally begins.
“I take it we are assuming the Tsurphu Labrang is the bad guy for the sake of our discussion.”

Sally adds.

“Given the old man’s choice of Darth Vader to illustrate this episode.”

Allen replies.

“Every good story needs a villain.”

Virginia replies.

“I have a hard time casting Ponlop Rinpoche’s younger brother as the bad guy in any of this though.”

Caroline replies.

“Rinpoche’s brother may be the Tsurphu Labrang.”

Allen replies.

“The Karmapa’s fixer.”

Allen continues.

“Their father was a fearsome figure.”

Allen adds.

“His son as Tsurphu Labrang, not so much so.”

Caroline replies.

“He is just another generation in a well established family business.”

Jonathan replies.

“Let’s blame the Chinese.”

Caroline replies.

“We do have the Chinese Khenpo in OTD’s inner circle to consider.”

Allen replies.

“Don’t forget his sister?”

Sally replies.

“There a sister, too.”

Sally pauses.

“The buck has to stop with Ogyen Trinley Dorje, though.”

Sally pauses.

“Am I right?”

Caroline replies.

“Welcome to guru yoga in the Karma Kagyu tradition today with Ogyen Trinley Dorje as 17th Karmapa.”

Caroline pauses.

“Lesson one.”

Caroline continues.

“I have been stuck by choice in this relationship since before the 16th Karmapa.”

Virginia replies.

“We can dispense with comparing the Tsurphu Labrang to Darth Vader.”

Sally replies.

“I had no idea Rinpoche’s brother is the Tsurphu Labrang,”

Sally adds.

“To hear people talk of the Karmapa’s office of administration you would think it this force to be reckoned with.”

Caroline replies.

“When you practice the Vajrayana your guru embodies all the shortcomings of samsara without exception.”

Caroline pauses.

“Get used to it.”

End scene. Fini.

    Oh my indeed.

I’m more curious as to what an encounter between Karmapa and Noah Levine might look like.

At the end of the day Darth Vadar’s handlers would likely prevent such s meeting from happening.

    • Caroline replies.

“My worst ever nightmare as a follower of Ogyen Trinley Dorje.”

      Virginia continues.

      “Dharma Punx!”

      Karl replies.

      “Virginia is a KTD lama.”

      Virginia adds.

      “Was a KTD lama.”

      Karl continues.

“The last thing she wants is a Karmapa so.”

      Sally replies.

      “Hip.”

      End scene. Fini.
