Je me souviens ! Gampopa “it is not enough for your mind to be still…”

Dear Readers,

Salut mes amis !

In 2016 we can say without fear of contradiction that this dharma is lost on today’s Chinese followers of Ogyen Trinley Dorje.

Nobody can argue otherwise.

Especially if the Chinese Communist Party is a thing for you.

“Exert yourself in meditation practice. Do not regard the way in which experience and realization occur to be enough. Beyond
this, it is not enough for your mind to be still; you must practice seeing its essence. It is not enough to only see its essence; you must practice to attain realization. It is not enough to attain realization; you must practice to turn from attachment. It is not enough to only turn away from attachment; you must practice to free your conceptual mind in dharmata and attain buddhahood in the exhaustion of phenomena and concepts.”

Gampopa

The single sufficient path

Voilà !

It goes without saying that crazy wisdom has no meaning to people whom lack the freedom to question the status quo of the appearance of things as we are free to do so in the West.

The 16th Karmapa, Rangjung Rikpe Dorje, got this about us.

And taught us accordingly.

What has changed since 1981?

The United Front Work Department of the Chinese Communist Party turned Khenchen Thrangu, Akong and Khenpo Karthar Rinpoches.

Courage !

Bill

Looks as if the Drukpa are trying to give the Karma Kagyu a run for their money as far as far as carnivalesque spirituality goes…

Saw this tweet today regarding HH TS coming to Yale:
    Andrew Quintman ‏@AndrewQuintman Sep 21
Excited to announce we will host HH Tai Situ Rinpoche at Yale w/ public talk Thursday 10/6 at United Church on the Green. Details to come.

    • Tina

Oh that’s great. The architect of complicity with the Chinese monsters gets to talk at Yale. Hopefully it will be better than the babble he performed at Stanford.

      Yawn….

      • Dear readers,

Situ was just a kid when in 1981 and had nothing to do with any of this.

        • Jane

Um, he claims to have discovered yr Karmapa. Are you saying this is not true?

          • Dear readers,

The 16th Karmapa was quite thorough when he put his affairs in order prior to passing away in 1981.

            With one notable exception.

We can say without fear of contradiction that His Holiness did not instruct his Labrang instructions regarding the identification of his successor.

            It never happened.

Damchoe Yongdu, the 16th Karmapa’s Labrang, died in 1982 so whatever Situ Rinpoche claims regarding his recognition of Ogyen Trinley Dorje as 17th Karmapa we must proceed with caution in unpacking the conventional wisdom on this subject.

In 1981 Situ Rinpoche was a member of the 16th Karmapa’s household.

After His Holiness passed away said household was up for grabs.

Shamar assumed the role of Regent.

Damchoe Yongdu was succeeded by Topga Rinpoche.

Situ Rinpoche had no role in this process.

Over the course of time as the window on choosing a 17th Karnapa was closing, in the absence of a prediction letter, Situ Rinpoche came into play with his claim that he had discovered HHK16’s instructions secreted away in an amulet which not coincidentally provided for the United Front Work Department of the Chinese Communist Party’s choice of Ogyen Trinley Dorje being named the next Karmapa.

There is no denying what happened.

Yes, Situ did indeed recognize Ogyen Trinley Dorje as 17th Karmapa.

In retrospect he was obviously played by the Karma Kagyu status quo of Khenchen Thrangu, Akong and Khenpo Karthar Rinpoches, whom were turned against the West by the United Front Work Department of the Chinese Communist Party after the passing of HHK16 in 1981.

Situ, the original “Rolex” Rinpoche, played no role in this process.

Beyond his highly suspect discovery of HHK16’s prediction letter.

Throughout 1981 to 1991 it was Khenchen Thrangu, Akong and Khenpo Karthar Rinpoches, the Karma Kagyu sect’s status quo that was driving the process.

Notwithstanding the conventional wisdom on the subject.

            • Jane

So who do you think penned the prediction letter?

              • Dear readers,

The letter in question is a fiction.

                Bill

                • Jane

Who do you think wrote the work of fiction?

                  • Dear readers,

Those of us who were Karma Kagyu in 1991 wrote the letter in question.

HHK16 never gave Damchoe Yongdu his prediction letter.

                    This is without precedent.

It’s not like there is an actual letter that Situ Rinpoche can produce for us to scientifically examine.

Situ claimed there was this letter that he found in an amulet HHK16 had given.

                    And we believed him.

In retrospect we can now say without fear of contradiction that he was played by Khenchen Thrangu, Akong and Khenpo Karthar Rinpoches, the Karma Kagyu powers that be prior to 1991, to the benefit of the United Front Work department.

There is no question at the time that China was going to recognize a 17th Karmapa.

From 1981 forward the United Front Work Department was driving the process as such.

This was going to happen regardless.

The letter in question was for our benefit alone.

China will be using a lottery to select the next Dalai Lama.

Tibetans haven’t driven this process since the United Front Work Department of the Chinese Communist Party turned Khenchen Thrangu, Akong and Khenpo Karther against the West after HHK16 passed away in 1981.

                    Bill

                    • Jane

OK, so Situ Rinpoche was just following orders in working hand in hand with China. I guess I feel some sympathy for him in that case. He’s always having to defend the “sacred letter of prediction,” which is too holy to be forensically tested.

                    • Dear readers,

Once you turn a light on in a room you need not continue to turn the light on.

Once the UFWD of the CCP turned Khenchen Thrangu, Akong and Khenpo Karthar against the West the rest is history.

                      It happened.

Once turned against us the CCP need not continue to turn the Karma Kagyu sect against the West, nobody had to tell Situ, or anyone else involved in the interregnum, what to do.

                      Bill

  3. Jane

I have to admit that I myself am sometimes a member of the “If you can’t beat them, join them” club, but I hate the idea of the CCP getting involved in choosing tulkus.
