Ponlop Rinpoche = Epic Fail
That being said Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche is a disciple of Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche and therein lies the rub for me, as a lama I know that nothing is as it appears to be thanks in no small part to my study of his guru’s teachings which I never would have received if not for Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, thus I don’t give a second thought to his obvious shortcomings and notwithstanding any past disappointments, I reached out to him in 2010 in the hope that he would intervene on behalf of us with the 17th Karmapa to remove Tenzin Chonyi, his stepfather, as president of KTD, talk about a family, no wonder he is having a midlife crisis, and even though it was not to be, he serves like his father before him, the 16th Karmapa’s Labrang, as does Dilyak Drupon Rinpoche, his brother an Labrang for the 17th Karmapa, not us the Buddhists of America but his own people, whom if he fails to respond to our concerns will be the demise of his family business, the real power behind the 17th Karmapa’s throne.

The 17th Karmapa last year did knowingly collaborate with the United Front Work Department of the Chinese Communist Party to recognize a Traleg Yangsi as the reincarnation of a Tibetan whom as a child in 1959 fled the Chinese Communist Party’s occupation of his homeland, whom lived and taught the Buddhists of Australia as a valued member of not only said sangha, became a proud citizen of Australia, and lived his life there as an example to all who live in the dictatorships of the world today and risk their lives to seek a life for themselves in a democracy of what when given the freedom to do so a determined freedom loving individual can accomplish given the freedom to do so, effectively ending the crazy wisdom Karma Kagyu lineage of a teacher of mine, Traleg Rinpoche, an act for which there can be no forgiveness, to condemn a child of a Tibetan and their family to the very same fate that he and his sister claim to have fled as children, a claim which in retrospect without question throws shade upon their very presence in India among those Tibetans that risked their lives to flee the Chinese Communist Party’s occupation of their homeland, is the act of a monster and not of a human being much less a 17th Karmapa, furthermore Ogyen Trinley Dorje stands accused of much worse, that under his watch Kalu Yangsi was gang raped by his very own monastery’s monks, as 17th Karmapa it was his responsibility to guarantee the welfare of this child and not only did he fail to do so, as 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje to date has yet to even acknowledge that said sexual assault even happened nor taken a single step to make sure it doesn’t happen again, and there is even more for which Ogyen Trinley Dorje has to answer to the Buddhists of America, under Ogyen Trinley Dorje’s watch as 17th Karmapa a child that he personally recognized as Jamgon the 4th was so ill treated over the course of his young life by the monks of his own monestary that he was forced to flee said monastery in April of this year to escape the lifetime of abuse he suffered there, which as 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje has yet to even address other than to issue a press release on the subject, more than he did after Kalu Yangsi was gang raped, but by no means sufficient to satisfy the concern of the Buddhists of America have for the welfare of Jamgon Kongtrul the fourth, and last but not least we have the fact that Ogyen Trinley Dorje as 17th Karmapa did knowingly use since 2007, nine years and counting, as documented by the Panama Papers, the very same law firm used by members of the Chinese Communist Party to hide money he received as 17th Karmapa from members of the Chinese Buddhist Community whom support said dictatorship’s efforts under the current regime to rebrand itself as the leader of the Buddhist world with Ogyen Trinley Dorje as defacto successor to the role of most recognized Buddhist leader in the world, an honor presently held by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, in an offshore bank account in the British Virgin Islands, which although not against the laws of the country that has granted him asylum is without question not only a betrayal of every freedom loving Tibetan suffering said dictatorship’s genocidal occupation of Tibet but furthermore a clear and present threat to the very freedom that the Buddhists of America hold to be inalienable, that which generations of Americans have fought and died abroad to guarantee that said freedom does not perish from the earth, so, in conclusion all the above which we demand, the Buddhists of America hereby demand that Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche as the 17th Karmapa representative to the Buddhist of America, notwithstanding any and all of his apparent shortcomings as a person, son of Damchö Yongdu, the 16th Karmapa’s Labrang, brother to the 17th Karmapa’s current Labrang, Dilyak Drupon Rinpoche, his family’s business being the Karmapa brand as such, answer to the satisfaction of the Buddhists of America for the above actions of Ogyen Trinley Dorje whom has so evidently proven himself not up to the standards that the Buddhists of America hold themselves up to, an understatement, but furthermore as 17th Karmapa, the hitherto presumed reincarnation of the 16th Karmapa, disqualifies Ogyen Trinley Dorje from ever again presuming the honor to teach Buddhism to the Buddhists of America forthwith.

I actually know the back story of the above picture of Traleg Rinpoche and Ogyen Trinley Dorje, I first met Traleg Rinpoche here in Chicago on his first tour of the United States of America, I mistook him for someone coming to see Traleg Rinpoche when we first met at KTC Chicago, he was dressed not in robes but like he just stepped out of Lands End catalog, we hit it off immediately of course during his first teaching here in which, much to his delight, I disagreed with him over his statement that Wangchuk Dorje was responsible for introducing the Karma Kagyu lineage to the Shentong empty of other view, I argued that according to Karma Trinley’s history of the sixteen Karmapa’s of Tibet it was Rangjung Dorje who introduced the Karma Kagyu lineage to this particular view, which he of course happily stood corrected after further consideration, we friends ever since, and I can say without fear of contradiction that he was a teacher of mine until his death, I remember well the moment in the midst of the controversy over Ogyen Trinley Dorje’s being named 17th Karmapa when while still recovering from a traumatic brain injury he had suffered Traleg Rinpoche did, much to our consternation over the effect doing so on his health, did offer three prostrations to a small picture of Ogyen Trinley Dorje who was then a small child, to in no uncertain terms make clear to all present that despite our misgivings about how Ogyen Trinley Dorje became the 17th Karmapa, he shared our concerns I might add, it was a done deal and as Karma Kagyu all we could do at this point was to proceed as if he was the reincarnation of the 16th Karmapa, so this being said a picture of Traleg Rinpoche with Ogyen Trinley Dorje in no way clears him of the crime against humanity he perpetrated in 2015 when he collaborated with the United Front Work department to name a Traleg Yangsi, thus ending the Traleg crazy wisdom Karma Kagyu lineage which the late Traleg Rinpoche established in the West, in Australia and here in the United States of America.

On two occasions that I recall off the top of my head he was so indisposed by his drinking problem that he had to cancel teachings here in Chicago, was common knowledge here, I am not privy to any infidelity he may have committed elsewhere, he never cheated on his wife while visiting Chicago KTC, I wasn’t his wingman but a student of his, as I have stated here in regards to Dzongchen Ponlop Rinpoche’s personal shortcomings as previously mentioned here the same applies to Traleg Rinpoche, as a lama of the 16th Karmapa’s mahasiddha inspired crazy wisdom Karma Kagyu lineage, there are not an issue, when Traleg Rinpoche cancelled his visit two years in a row hours before he was expected to arrive at Chicago KTC, a friend had flown to Chicago from California and was a house guest on both occasions I was not a happy camper, but I understood the causes and conditions which led to his drinking, I have known my fair share of alcoholics in my time, compare this to what Ogyen Trinley Dorje, I will not restate what he stands accused of as 17th Karmapa, suffice it to say it comes as no surprise that he hasn’t visited the United States of America this year, he previously stated that he planned to visit the United States annually, because the mere fact that he was caught using the same law firm as members of the Chinese Communist Party to hide money in an offshore account, as documented by the Panama Papers would be sufficient cause to deny him a visa to visit here, there is no comparison, Ogyen Trinley Dorje is not up to the standard the Buddhists of America hold teachers of Buddhism to in our country.
