Not being realistic is spiritual materialism and nothing is more unrealistic than Tibetans teaching us how to practice Buddhism…

I submit for your consideration the following from Trungpa as it pertains to how my generation of Karma Kagyu approached Tibetan Buddhism back in the day.

We were skeptical of anything that was not a path to liberation.

In keeping with my generations suspicion of Tibetan Buddhism, speaking of Lojong as we have been here, this practice in particular was “problematic” for my generation of Karma Kagyu as such, in terms of not mixing the Mahayana and the Vajrayana.

Telling someone to practice lojong is a great way to shut them down.

I saw it used to great effect here at KTC Chicago back in the day.

It was such an “Opiate of the masses” kind of being a Buddhist I’ve always avoided myself.

I put it in the same category as Shantideva, something to be avoided if you are a woke kind of Buddhist.

i mostly do dzogchen practices. there are many. however a couple are very much like lojong, but not called that. and i’ll do them of i want to. nah nah nah nah nah nah. sticking my tongue out.

kalu runpoche used to say that we shouldn’t forget that vajrayanna is a small island in the sea of mahayanna.. on the other hand dzogchen and all its yogas preiminaties and realization practices do stand alone if you want to do them that way. some say that’s the only way to do them. i don’t know.
