“… And one pill makes you small, and the ones that mother gives you don’t do anything at all.” White Rabbit, Jefferson Airplane

I submit for your consideration the question, in the Tibetan tradition of the last fifty years in America per se, the personal failures, of Trungpa, his regent Ozel Tendzin, the Sakyong, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, Lama Norlha, to name check the most high profile Karma Kagyu and Kagyu-adjacent offenders, did what their dharma activity taught us work? It worked for them personally until it didn’t, alcoholism, AIDS, allegations of sexual misconduct, Financial Fraud, and even allegations of sexual assault, but beyond that, did what they taught us work, specifically, the Vajrayana as taught to Karma Kagyu monastic retreatants in Tibet since Düsum Khyenpa in the 12th century to present, and adapted for public consumption in the West versus Machig Labdrön’s 11th Century Chöd of Mahamudra, Karma Kagyu canon since Rangjung Dorje in the 13th century, according to Jamgon Kongtrul, volume 14, The Treasury of Precious Instructions, but not widely taught in the West for being a non-monastic tradition founded by a woman, and without an Indian origin or a tenuous one at that, as such?

I’ve been a Tibetan Buddhist 40 years and it wasn’t until I moved here to the site of the 16th Karmapa’s Parinirvana and took up the practice of the Chöd of Mahamudra when the Vajrayana approach to demons, bribing them to stay away, simply wasn’t getting the job done for me, so I’m asking the question. I have demons. Always have. The property we bought has demons that I have to work with as a homeowner. All this in addition to all the demonic activity that arises from the practice Vajrayana and so on. Anyway, a chunky topic with a little bite to give you indigestion, if you are so inclined, posted without reading in the name of keeping it real.

    • My introduction to demons date back fifty years ago when my father died and the Catholic Church refused to bury him, the implication being that he was going to hell. My mother was Catholic. He jumped through all the hoops they have for mixed marriages and I was raised Catholic. But that wasn’t enough for the Parish priest in 1972 Yorktown Heights, New York, which is where we had lived since 1968. Before that we lived in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, my earliest childhood memories being of Valley Forge, flying a kite with my father. My mother never forgave the Catholic Church, so when she married a Canadian of Scottish decent, church going Quebecois Catholicism was beyond the pale as such, but I’ve gotten the gist of what it was like to be Catholic during the days of Duplessis, when as a friend’s 90 year old father recently joked when his father asked him what people meant by “social media” influencers were, “in my day it was the parish priest,” that told his generation what to do.

One tea spoon of maple syrup a day could help. What is the house problem?

        • The people across the street. The village of beach park prohibits street parking. They have room to park up to six vehicles on their property. They don’t have a garage. We have a four car garage and a long driveway that can accommodate at least 10 cars. We have one car. Although the house across the street is less than a thousand square feet they appear to need at least six vehicles for some reason.

In 2020 it wasn’t an issue but in 2021 their visitors began parking on our property. It became a regular source of irritation for me over time. The prior owner of our property had a no trespassing sign which we took down when we moved in. We later learned that he had a reputation for threatening trespassers with a gun, and so on. His family built our house in 1945 and he was the last of his people as such. He outlived his only child. We bought the property from his estate, for less than it was worth. Apparently the estate was having trouble finding a buyer for it as is. They rewired it and so on but left the yard as is which obviously diminished its curb appeal. Prior to 2021 we considered ourselves lucky to have found the property at the price we did. We hired someone to fix the fence and clear the brush that had taken over the back of the property and otherwise haven’t had to put a penny into the place since.

The village of Beach Park has no police department to enforce the ban on street parking. People here keep their property on their property and would never think of parking on the street. Why would they? They definitely wouldn’t be parking on a neighbors property as such.

Enter the demons, the can of worms. In addition to the demons of our property’s past owner, I had my own demons as a 63 year old who left home as a 17 year old and became a Buddhist the first chance he got so he wouldn’t end up like his parents and so on. Despite my dharma practice and the belief that none of what I describe here was ultimately real I found myself reaching out to the village of Beach Park for relief. I was told that it wasn’t a priority which rubbed me the wrong way. My neighbor doesn’t speak English. The speak Spanish so my only recourse was to speak through one of the young children about my problem with their parents and so on, which I had done before when one of their children broke a window of ours, kids will be kids, but this time it seemed inappropriate to involve a child in a problem with their parents.

This is where this saga gets spicy. I called the non-emergency number for the Lake County Sheriff’s Department and they sent out a very nice young man that spoke Spanish and I thought that would be the end of the situation.

Instead the officer ended up explaining to me that they are Latinos and the owner of the property across the street has a lot of relatives and since I’m new here I would just have to accept their visitors parking on the street, which I politely took exception to. I showed him the Village ordinance and told him to ticket the car parked on the street which he was obligated to do and we both hoped would communicate that notwithstanding their Latino culture as such they had to change their ways in this regard.

Several hours later there were even more cars parked on the street in front of our house. The officer returned and ticketed the cars and informed me that he had reached out to the Village and that I was “expected” to show up at the Village Hall the next day with the implication that someone was going to speak to me about my problem which I did.

So bright and early the next morning I presented myself as ordered by the Sheriff’s office without complaint. Nobody wanted to speak to me. I then explained to them that a law enforcement officer told me I was expected and so on, and then uttered the magic words, as a “citizen” I resent being so ordered to appear before a government employee, and in that moment I became my long deceased Republican voting Korean War veteran Republican voting namesake with all the flag waving demons associated with people that refer to themselves as citizens, with the implication that my neighbor, not being able to speak English, a requirement to become a naturalized citizen, was not a citizen. I was playing the card they feared I was. I’m not that person. I felt horrible when I realized why the Village official was so apologetic for the misunderstanding with the Sheriff and the impression that I had to accommodate my neighbor’s culture as a new resident. At the time I had no idea what demon I had manifested. It was only while doing Vajrasattva practice that I discerned the obscuration in the process of detoxifying the prior day’s negativity which is my habit.

I take an equal amount of each of the below substances and grind them to powder in a coffee grinder and put them in a bottle with vodka and strip all the alkaloids out. I just shake the bottle good and hard 3x/day for a couple weeks. Then I filter all the fiber out with a type of
micron filter made of nylon. I make this into tinctures and take it under the tongue a few times a day.

There is a reference to bimala helping rid one of the 9 demons but I cant find it anywhere.

This special incense is made from trees which grow in the mountains around Tsurphu Monastery in Tibet after His Holiness third Karmapa Rangjung Dorje blessed the barren mountains with his hair. The trees that rose there are widely known in Tibet as being beneficial for purifying disturbing obstacles, expelling evil spirits and bringing good fortune.

    There is a
Woman in Boulder named Damaris Jarboux who is a healer and Qi Gong teacher who removes foreign energies from people, spaces, relationship and family fields. She is at least 75yo and has been doing it for decades and she is very good at what she does. I have personally seen her accomplish what a Taoist master and a senior Bonpo shaman from Nepal could not. She works remotely if necessary and is just as competent working that way as in person. She also shuts the portal to the shamanic lower realms which makes it much harder for them to get back in. I used to have ongoing problems with dangerous foreign energy getting in my system but since she closed that portal years ago it has been few and far between.
